LEPHEN PURWANTO

Lephen Purwanto was born in Yogyakarta, and grew up in Batang, Central Java, living close to the Bompo Performance Hall (1970-1974) and Mustika Cinema (1975-1985), where he watched ketoprak, wayang orang, tarling and ludruk from various cities in Central Java, Yogya, Solo, Banyumas, West Java and East Java with his mother Mak Kuning. When the traditional art of traveling performances began to decline, because Indonesian, Indian and American and Chinese movies were played every night and every night watched movies. In 1986, he studied at the Department of Theater, Faculty of Arts, Institut Seni Indonesia Yogyakarta. In 2007 studied at the Master of Tourism Studies, Postgraduate School, Gadjah Mada University Yogyakarta. In 2008 studied at the Master of Arts, Postgraduate School, Institut Seni Indonesia Yogyakarta. In 2017, he studied at the Doctor of Cultural Studies, Postgraduate Program, Sanata Dharma University, Yogyakarta. He is currently a teacher at the S-1 Theater Study Program at ISI Yogyakarta and a teacher at Yaketunis Special School A (Blind) Yogyakarta. Pioneer and founder of Braille Theater since 2020.
